Intermediate Dog Training Classes

For dogs who have already passed the basic beginners class, or who already have a good grasp on basic commands.

Dogs attending this class must be 6 months or older.

Attendance in Intermediate Dog Training is limited to 15 dogs per class.

Introduction to Dog Training Class

If participants in Intermediate Dog Training have not attended the Basic Beginners course at Santa Barbara Humane Society, they are required to attend an Introduction to Dog Training class.

 Our dog-free Introduction to Dog Training classes are free of charge and required before you attend any class or social. This class will cover basic requirements, class rules, room layout, training philosophy, how dogs learn, canine body language, and equipment.

Sunday, February 16 at 2:30 PM

Monday, February 24 at 5:30 PM

Sunday, March 1 at 2:30 PM

Monday, March  9 at 5:30 PM

Sunday, March 15 at 2:30 PM

Monday, March 23 at 5:30 PM

Intermediate Dog Training Classes


Intermediate Dog Training Classes (recent SBHS adopter) 



Intermediate Dog Training classes are taught in 4-week courses.


Intermediate Class attendees can choose between classes on Mondays at 7 PM or on Saturdays at 2 PM



What to Bring

  • Dogs must wear a flat collar or harness.(Dogs may not wear choke-chains, prong or electronic collars.)
  • A six-foot, non-retractable leash
  •  Necessary vaccination records
  • A hungry, but not famished dog.
  • Treats: A variety of your dogs favorite treats, cut into very small pea size pieces, that you can carry in a treat pouch or other suitable container that allows easy access when you are seated, standing or walking. Please bring 3 different types of treats!
  • Treat pouch that you can wear, which is easy to put your hand in and doesn’t make noise when you grab a treat.
