It’s the goal of every animal shelter to have a day when all homeless animals have been adopted. Santa Barbara Humane Society is hoping to achieve this goal during the national Clear The Shelters event. From 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 and 11 AM to 4 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2019 Santa Barbara Humane Society will be waiving cat and dog adoption fees for all qualified adopters. Cats and dogs of all sizes will be available for adoption during the event.
“We truly hope that every single one of the animals in our shelter finds a loving forever home,” says Santa Barbara Humane Society Executive Director Kerri Burns. “ For every animal that is adopted at an event like this, we can bring in another animal in need of shelter and a loving home.”
More than 1,200 shelters throughout the United States are participating in Clear the Shelters, an initiative by NBC and Telemundo to help shelter animals find their forever homes. Locally, other Santa Barbara area shelters including Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, ASAP, DAWG, Santa Barbara County Animal Services (3 locations), Santa
Ynez Valley Humane Society will be participating in the promotion. Since 2015, more than 250,000 pets have been adopted through this annual event.
Adoption prices are normally $125 for kittens, $100 for adult cats, and $65 for senior cats. Puppies under 6 months old are usually $ 175 to adopt, while adult dogs are $125, and senior dogs are $75. All adoption animals are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Donations are appreciated since the Santa Barbara Humane Society is an independent, local non-profit organization, which is not affiliated with any national organizations.
