Pet Boarding Procedures
- To ensure that we are able to provide you with timely reservations, or to place you on a "Wait List", you must keep your Santa Barbara Humane Society membership up-to-date.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that all vaccinations required for boarding are current; all cats and dogs MUST have the necessary vaccinations prior to entering boarding. The Santa Barbara Humane Society honors all 3-year vaccines IF the manufacturer's label on the vaccine bottle states that the vaccine duration is 3 years.
- Boarding reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Humane Society books out boarding reservations two (2) months in advance.
- GENERAL RULES:
- Drop-Off and Pick-Up is between 10:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays).
- First time boarders: All first-time boarders must pay with cash or by credit or debit card in advance for the length of your pet's stay.
- For boarding reservation cancellations or changes: You must call at least 72 hours in advance, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday at (805) 964-4777.
- When making reservations: Please advise staff if your pet is under treatment, has had recent surgery, or has recently been treated for any medical condition.
- In advance of your boarding date(s): You are responsible for contacting your veterinarian to inform them that you authorize them to treat your pet in the event of injury or illness. IMPORTANT: We will determine if it is appropriate to transport your pet to your veterinarian for diagnosis and/or treatment. Transport by Santa Barbara Humane Society staff to your veterinarian is at no additional charge; however, as stated on your boarding card, you agree that you are responsible for any costs or expense for treatment of your pet by your veterinarian.
- When dropping off your pet for boarding, please provide the Shelter Office Staff with any emergency phone numbers or the names and phone numbers of any individuals who are allowed to visit your pet, walk your dog, or to pick up your pet in the event you cannot make it back on the day you are due. IMPORTANT: Pets will not be released to anyone without the proper authorization and/or proper payment from you in advance of Pick -Up.
- Your cat must be in a carrier and dogs must be on leash.
- If you choose to bring bedding for your pet, it must be made out of tough, bite-proof material. Please note that any bedding that is soiled during your pet's stay will be removed from the kennel.
- If you have reserved a dog kennel with an exercise yard, be advised: if your dog is fearful, difficult to handle, or may pose a safety hazard to our staff, we reserve the right to relocate your dog to a kennel with no access to an exercise yard .
- When making a boarding reservation, notify our Shelter Office Staff of the following:
- Whether or not you will be bringing your own food (wet and/or dry).
